Leo the lion wasn't scary. He was a cub with sunshine-colored fur and a mane that looked like a golden halo. He practiced his roar, but it only came out as a funny squeak that made the zebras giggle.
One day, Leo felt sad. "My roar is silly," he pouted. A wise old tortoise named Shelly saw him. "A real roar is brave, Leo," she said slowly. "It protects your friends."
Leo's ears perked up. "Brave? How?"
Shelly explained, "A loud roar scares away danger, like a grumpy rhino!" Leo wanted to be brave!
Suddenly, the ground shook! A grumpy rhino charged at some scared zebras. Leo's heart thumped. This was his chance!
He took a deep breath and roared as loud as he could. It wasn't a mighty sound, but it surprised the rhino! The rhino stopped, confused, and then walked away.
The zebras looked at Leo with big eyes. Even the silly zebras stopped giggling. Leo felt happy inside. He wasn't just the cub with the squeaky roar. He was Leo, the brave protector!
From that day on, Leo practiced his roar with all his might. He learned that being brave wasn't about being the loudest, but about helping others. And with every practice roar, Leo grew braver, waiting for the day he might need a truly mighty one.
